(Boyd, 29, is a true trailblazer on the Zambian art scene. His style and theme is refreshing in a landscape that typically offers conservative afro-centric artwork; so much so that he's been accused of being a satanist; accusations that reflect the prevailing cultural zeitgeist than Boyd's oeuvre. Boyd's paintings set out to redefine the boundaries of what's possible in a more traditional country and art market; his artworks are painfully emotional meditations on class, culture, and the infinite potential of the human experience. Choosing to make art that addresses the tensions, contradictions, and intangible phenomena inherent to the human experience requires exceptional bravery and commitment. Nonetheless, Boyd has seen tremendous success in the art world, with international recognition in European markets and, increasingly, the United States.)
