Abandoned House
Alex Suse Chishimba, "Abandoned House", 2025, Oil on canvas, 23.6 x 21.2in. (60 x 54cm)
Alex, 29, is a refreshing evolution from the works produced by the masters of Zambia's art scene in the 1970s and '80s. In fact, Alex still receives mentorship from one of the legends of this era; but his work goes further and is appropriately suited for modern tastes.
NOTE: This painting is in Lusaka, Zambia, and will take 2-3 weeks to ship to the US. Shipping to the US will be paid for by Art Zambezi.

Artistic Meaning and Symbolism
The accompanying text provides a deep symbolic interpretation of the scene:
The Broken Home: While appearing as a simple village scene with a broken house, it is described as a metaphor for the real-life situation where individuals leave their homelands to settle in more developed countries.
Cultural Critique: The narrative suggests that those who leave often blame traditional affairs, culture, and social norms for the state of their homeland.
Message of Encouragement: The painting is intended to encourage people to build up their own homelands rather than just "harvesting" from them and allowing them to decline.
